Lithograph and picture frame detail

The original house, built circa 1840, was a one and a half story, three room cottage with two rooms divided by a plank wall on the first floor. A bedroom was over the present parlor. There was no hall at this time, a ladder being the way to the second floor.

This long hall, part of a modernization, was added before 1855. Simple stairs by the front door were replaced by a more elaborate Greek Revival stairway with a cherry newel and railing.

The house has been restored to the 1860 floor plan with appropriate architectural details.

The furniture, although not original, is period correct for the date of original construction of each room. The Empire style (1815-1840) lyre clothes rack and umbrella stand and Empire style picture frame are period correct: Empire style furniture was used in Greek Revival houses.
