Upper panel: Two Angels Carrying Torches / David Playing His Harp

Both angels look downward. The angel at the left cradles some lilies in her right arm and holds a flaming torch in her left hand. The angel next to her also holds a flamingtorch and the flames from each intertwine towards the center and the smoke takes an shapes similar to the feathers in their wings.

Note use of opalescent glass.

"It turns out that this window has an interesting history, because it was made in memory of ten women who died in a sleigh accident (the sleigh was hit by a train) in Hornell (so not that far from Buffalo) in 1905.  There are (at least) five other versions of this design (St Paul's, Richmond, VA; Church of the Incarnation, Manhattan; Church of the Saviour, Brooklyn; Grace Episcopal, Plainfield, NJ; Driehaus Collection, Chicago, IL, which was originally in the Woodbury Universalist Church in Hornell, NY), and one other slight variant (Second Reformed, Hackensack, NJ, more deco than nouveau because it dates to 1929). The Richmond, VA one is also historically interesting in that it is (the upper part of) a window in memory of Jefferson Davis." - Wayne Boucher
