The walls rise forty-five feet from the Delaware entrance and increase to sixty-two feet in height above the altar. The walls flare outward 15 degrees and are firmly anchored to an underground pedestal 50 feet below ground level.

The walls are curved sheets of Alabama limestone over steel-reinforced concrete. The walls are more than three feet thick at the base and eleven inches thick at the top.

The soaring ten scalloped walls are symbolic of the Ten Commandments. They pitch outward, also as a representation of arms outstretched in prayer.
