River Lea original gates. The gates were returned to the original site n 2005 through a donation of the Makowski family. The original entrance to River Lea was on East River Road through these gates. The road that is visible through the gates is what is left of that section of East River Road after the State demolished houses and created Beaver Island State Park. River Lea was spared the fate of other houses after vigorous protest from preservationists. The State owns and maintains the house, while the Grand Island Historical Society maintains the collections.
