Supporting terra cotta Corinthian columns of baldachino,
which was designed by Robert Hoffman, retain the early Christian and Byzantine heritage which inspired the Lombard builders.

A baldachino or canopy was often used in the early church over the altar. Sometimes there were curtains to be drawn during special parts of the Mass to stress the sacredness of the Mass. This ancient custom was discontinued centuries ago, but a modified type of it was introduced into Blessed Trinity in the form of four sets of drapes to indicate the liturgical season.
