At the mouth of the Buffalo River, one can see the Buffalo Lighthouse, dating to the time when Buffalo became a city and Ebenezer Johnson became its first mayor, in 1832. The Lighthouse stands at the end of the first harbor, built in 1820 through the perseverance of Samuel Wilkeson.
