If single-sex recreation and socializing in a Christian environment was beneficial for young, urban men, then it was beneficial for young, urban women, too, many of whom migrated away from family supervision to work in large industrial cities like Buffalo.
This was not the only women's presence in the heart of Buffalo; across Niagara Square was the proto-feminist Women's Educational and Industrial Union, whose nondenominational mission was "to increase fellowship among women, in order to promote the best practical methods for securing their educational, industrial, and social advancement." The tower on the right was never built.
