Erectheion, Acropolis, Athens, Greece
Albright-Knox Art Gallery Architecture
A decorative bracket in the form of a vertical scroll that supports a cornice or entablature over a door or window
Greek: "ancone" - elbow or hollow
Often decorated with one or more acanthus leaves
Found in classical Greek and Roman architecture and derivatives, including Beaux Arts Classicism, Classical Revival, Federal, Georgian Revival, Greek Revival, Neoclassicism, Renaissance Revival, Second Empire
An ancone is a type of corbel
S scroll can also refer to an "S" curved design.
