Bas-relief

Architecture:A sculptural carving, embossing, or casting that projects very little from the background
French for low relief.
Commonly found in most styles of architecture.
Relief: sculpture consisting of shapes carved on a surface so as to stand out from the surrounding background
The relief carving of hieroglyphics on Egyptian temple walls, columns, and obelisks is bas relief.See also: Relief carving
