George J. Metzger Rites Set Tuesday
Builder and Architect Dies After Heart
Attack.
Col.
George J. Metzger, 74, Buffalo architect and builder, died Saturday in his
home, 200 Bidwell parkway, following a heart attack, Funeral services will be held
Tuesday afternoon in the family residence under Masonic auspices. Burial will be
in Forest Lawn.
Born in Buffalo, Nov. 17, 1855, Col. Metzger was educated in the Buffalo, public schools and entered the architect's profession at the age of 20. He quickly rose to prominence and laterorganized the Metzger Construction corporation.
The 106th armory, Schools 44 and 13., buildings of the university of Buffalo, the Federal building, Children's hospital and many other structures bear evidence of his craftsmanship. He was at one time county architect.
He served 30 years in the New York National Guard, first in the old 65th Regiment, and later on the Fourth Brigade headquarters staff, He retired with the rank of colonel,.
Col. Metzger was an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects and was
twice president of the Buffalo chapter. He was a 33d degree Mason and a member of
these organizations:

- Two daughters, Mrs. George E. Houck and Mrs. Harold E. Webster (Buffalo )

- One sister, Mrs. Otto E. Kiene (Denver)
