Ms. Hauenstein was a member of the Board of Women Managers during the Pan American Exposition held in Buffalo in 1901.

Ms. Hauenstein attended the Buffalo Normal School and Ingram University in LeRoy, New York. She was a publicist, writer and lecturer. She wrote two books, Songs from the Silence and Sonnets from the Silence released in 1922. She published three books of verse.

President of the "Scribblers," an organization for local writing women, she was also President of the Women's Christian Association and President of Women's Society of the Delaware Avenue Baptist Church. Also Vice-President of the Buffalo Branch of the League of American Pen Writers and Vice-President of the Poetry Society of Buffalo.

When Ms. Hauenstein died, she was living at 725 West Ferry Street, Buffalo, New York.
