• Born in Detroit in 1855.
  
  
• Died peacefully at age 67 in 1922 at his home at 619 Lafayette Ave.  At his bedside was his wife, Mrs. Sarah D. Hewitt. There were no children.
  
  
• Funeral services were held at Saint John's Episcopal Church, the Rev. Walter Russell Lord officiating.   32 honorary pallbearers included the following: Walter P. Cooke, John J. Albright, E. H. Letchworth, George F. Rand, Daniel J. Kenefick, John D. Larkin, Jacob F. Schoellkopf, Sr, Charles R. Huntley.
  
  
• As a boy he was employed at the Michigan Central in Detroit. Later he was general manager for the Pullman Co. in Chicago. He lived in Chicago from 1886 to 1893.
  
  
• Holder of six patents related to rail car design.
  
  
• In 1892 he married Miss Sarah Dutro and in 1893 moved to Buffalo where he engaged in the construction and afterward in the management of the Union Car co., organized by John J. Albright, Daniel Spore and Henry C. French.
  
  
• Founder (1904) and president of the Hewitt Rubber Co., manufacturers of tires and rubber supplies. At his death, there were 700 employees. Plants were located on Kensington Ave.
  
  
• Founder of Buffalo Brass Co. which subsequently became one of the constituent parts of the Magnus Metal company, which Hewitt and his brother, Charles M., controlled and managed for some years.
  
  
• Manager of the Union Car Co.
  
  
• Active in the organization and management of the Reading Car Wheel company, the Metric packing company and several large bronze companies.
  
  
• One of his horses won the Kentucky Derby.
  
  
• Buffalo: Member of Saint John's Episcopal Church, the Buffalo Club, the Country Club, and the Park club.
  
  
• Chicago: Member of the Seaview Golf club, the Union League club of Chicago, the Chicago club, and the South Shore Country club.
  
  
• New York: Member of the Lawyers' club, the Bankers' club, the Transportation club, and the New York Athletic club.
