Text: "Fireplace and wall effect in the studio [now
library] of Spencer Kellogg, Jr.'s home on Lincoln Parkway. Designed by Harold L.
Olmstead."
Note from Lee Oprea:
Harold L. Olmsted ("Olmstead" is a misspelling) re-designed a number of
fireplaces in his lifetime. He converted them to Rumford fireplaces so they would
"draw" better. Original fireplaces were usually very drafty and they "puffed"
into the house.
The Rumford design (which can be seen in the Olmsted
Camp, as well as in the farmhouse, on same property, where
I live) is very efficient... Well, at least more efficient than any other design.
