The project will house the U.S. District Court, Court of Appeals, U.S. Probation, U.S. Marshals, U.S. Attorney and GSA.

The Courthouse will be the only structure on the block, set back 50 feet from the curb line to meet new security criteria.

It will provide the District Court with five courtrooms and chambers, the Magistrate with four courtrooms and chambers, the Court of Appeals with a judge’s chamber and a library.

Additionally, 260,982 gross square foot courthouse will also provide preparatory space for the U.S. Attorney and Federal Public Defender as well as indoor parking for 54 vehicles and space for GSA.

The historic Michael J. Dillon U.S. Courthouse will house the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, the U.S. Trustees, the Federal Defender and the U.S. Tax Court.

It is currently anticipated that the new Buffalo Courthouse will achieve a LEED®-Gold rating.

The architect has designed a structure with a curved south wall that orients the courthouse toward Niagara Square. A glass curtain wall reveals activity within. The building also features a glass entry pavilion and an elevator tower that will be topped with a glowing lantern. Artwork by native Buffalo artist Robert Mangold, consisting of large-scale translucent colored glass panels, will be located in the entry pavilion.
