Federal Rooms
The style pioneered in England in the mid-eighteenth century of Robert Adam reached America in the years immediately after the Revolutionary War.
Characterized by slender proportions, rectilinearity, pastel colors, and the liberal use of classical ornamental motifs, the Adam style of interior decoration was enthusiastically embraced by Americans, who then adapted it to suit their own tastes and circumstances.
