The Cleveland Children

1. During Cleveland's first term as 22nd president (1885-1889), Frances and Grover were married in the White House in 1886. Cleveland was the second president to be married in office and the only president to be married in the White House. At 21 years old, Frances was the youngest First Lady.

After the President's defeat in 1888 to Benjamin Harrison, the Clevelands lived in New York City, where baby Ruth (1891-1904) was born.

2. After Cleveland's unprecedented reelection, defeating Harrison, to become the 24th president (1893-1897) people took keen interest in the birth of Esther (1893-1980), the only child ever born in the White House.

3. Marion (1895-1977) was born in Buzzard's Bay, Mass., also during Cleveland's second term.

4. After the Clevelands left the White House in 1897, Richard Folsom (1897-1974), were born while the Clevelands lived in Princeton, New Jersey.

5. Francis Grover (1903-1995) was born in Buzzard's Bay, Mass.

Baby Ruth VS. Baby McKee

Cleveland was elected as the 22nd US president. In the following election, Harrison received 100,000 fewer popular votes than Cleveland, but carried the Electoral College 233 to 168.

The Clevelands' first child, "Baby Ruth" (1891-1904), was born during Harrison's term in office. The popularity of Baby Ruth was countered by an attempt to popularize President Benjamin Harrison's grandson, called "Baby McKee."

In 1921, the Curtiss Candy Company named a candy bar in honor of Ruth Cleveland.
