The first floor of a garage at 32 Summit Ave. in the Flint Hill area is constructed of Ononadaga limestone quarried from the back yard. Flint is another name for "chert" which is found in Ononadaga limestone. Chert/flint is very hard and is difficult to cut, which explains why it was usually used only for foundations of houses.
