Altar of the Blessed Virgin in the Lady Chapel
This balances with the Sacred Heart Chapel on the other side of the church
On one side is St. Bernadette Soubirous (1844-1879), to whom Our
Lady appeared at Lourdes, France, in 1858.
On the other side is St. Bernadine of Siena (1380-1444), a powerful Franciscan preacher
of the time. Because Father Plassmann, a Franciscan, was the designer of the symbolism,
there is a marked preference for Franciscan saints throughout the church.
