Miscellaneous facts:
- Segesta is an abandoned ancient city located in the province of Trapani, about 74 kilometers southwest of Palermo, roughly an hour's drive from the capital.
- Segesta probably founded by exiles from Troy after the Trojan War
- Doric temple built in 5th century B, probably between 420 and 430 BC.
- Temple unfinished, probably because of war
- Unrestored except for bricks, blocks, silicone
- Doric temples have a 3-step base, here unfinished
- 36 columns: 14 columns on each of the long sides of the building, and 6 columns across the front and back, for a total of 36 columns.
- Unfinished:
- It appears that the structure never had a "cella," or roof,
- Column bases not leveled yet
- Block handles not chiseled off yet
- No wooden roofs with tiles yet
- No plaster on frieze yet
- No flutes yet
- No lions' heads for waterspouits and as a way to frighten evil spirits
