Edwin D. Gilbert (1825-1888)A maltster (maker of malt). In 1887 his office was located at 60 Board Trade Building. His home adress was 884 Main Street.
Gilbert was a businessman who earned his wealth as a malt and grain merchant and was a member of Bufflo's Merchants' Exchange.
The sphinx is a copy of the Great Sphinx of Gizeh, inspired by the Egyptian Revival style
